Carnivore

For the longest time Kolton would not eat meat.  The pediatrician also thought this might suggest he has some sort of sensory issue.  Well I realized that I had basically just stopped giving it to him all together.  Over the weekend we ate out at a Mexican restaurant....does anyone else have trouble spelling that word (restaurant) I get it wrong and have to use spell check every time...ANYWAY, I ordered a chicken quesadilla...oh! another tough word (quesadilla)...and Kolton ate most of it.  Since then he's had more chicken and today bites of a hamburger.  I'm stoked!  Look like he just needed to grow into it a little bit.

And on a completely random note-the thing I hate the most about Mike having to travel more now is trash day.  Ugh!  Taking out the trash is a man's job right?!?!  It seems like he is always gone on Thursday nights and I'm stuck taking out the trash.  It takes only minutes to do but I always get pissy.  It drives me nuts!

Target Practice

I just had to share this photo because how colorful it is.  That's the dollar section of Target.  I get sucked up into it every time.  Today I decided to change it up and go to a different Target than we normally go to.   Wow! I'm exciting aren't I?!?!

So I think I managed to find a great babysitter.  I'm heading to Baltimore on Friday for a girls night out.  Mike can't be home in time for me to make it up there for dinner so this was my only option.  Whats funny is the first girl I offered the job to ended up having to back out due to some dental issue or something.  In the meantime a girl I was really interested in messaged me back.  I realize that sounds a little creepy!  But we totally clicked on the phone...and that sounds even worse.  But I don't know how else to describe it =)

Sync

Kolton and I were waaaaaay off our normal routine today.  He fell asleep in the stroller during our walk this morning and did not stay asleep once I transferred him to the crib.  So we went to the grocery store.  He fell asleep in his car seat.  Again I failed to transfer him successfully.  Later another car trip resulted in another sleeping baby...we were on our way to a play date.  But since he had not slept at all I drove around for 45 minutes then decided to try the transfer 1 more time.  I thought I was going for strike #3 but after only a few minutes of crying he went down again.  I had to wake him up at 5pm.  Aaaaahh!  This day was so out of sync!  The only saving grace is he went to bed without a peep at 8:00.

Mike and I were together long before the days of online dating.  I always thought it seemed like a no brainer if you were single.  Well now I find myself online to find a new relationship; with a babysitter!  Has anyone ever used Sitter City or Care.com? I thought it looked pretty simple but its actually been a little stressful.  Basically you post a job and available sitters apply.  We have a wonderful babysitter here in Richmond that was referred to us.  But I'm looking for someone in Baltimore.  We go back so often I'd like to find a couple girls that I could call on whenever we come into town, which usually ends up being once a month.  So I've been pouring over profiles and have made a few awkward phone calls.  I just don't know how I'm going to be able to do this without meeting them in person.  I'm so scared of being stupid and putting my child in harms way.  But I'm also a little fed up with feeling like I'm being punished just because we don't live near family.  If people can fall in love and get married online I'm sure I can sync with a babysitter....right?

Memorial Motivation

It always seems like a good idea to stay home on a long weekend and "get things done".  Then the laziness strikes!  Whoa!  We were able to get the garage mostly cleaned out and on Saturday we had a date night.  Other than that we did a whole lotta nothin around here.  Its definitely relaxing on one hand but totally depressing on the other.  Kind of like last year we feel like we are in the calm before the storm.  The next month is going to be crazy and we just needed time to nap.  Which has been really easy to do because Kolton took 3-4 hour naps every day!  But seriously, I think my laziness has gotten a little out of control.  A life without deadlines is sometimes hard to motivate.

Withdrawal

I've had an overall rough start to this week.  I just feel crummy both mentally and physically.  Last night it hit me....no coffee!  We ran out of K cups on Sunday and I haven't felt like myself ever since.  I have never considered myself to be addicted to coffee but I bet I'm experiencing a little withdrawal.  Thankfully Mike picked some up last night and I am sipping on it now =)

Yesterday I had to go to the county mental health office to fill out paperwork to get Kolton evaluated for his speech.  They gave me a questionnaire with different developmental milestones on it for a 16 month old.  I had to answer "not yet" to a lot of them.  I just wish I could explain how incredibly smart but laid back my little man is.  From my answers you would think that he just sits there like a lump, but that isn't the case at all!!!!  I think I'll be more relieved once the evaluation actually takes place on June 12th.

Well I hope today is a better day...I'm going to go make myself another cup of coffee!

Overboard

Look at that sweet little angel face!  This was taken after a 4 hour nap on Friday.  A few weeks back I thought he was going to drop back to 2 hour naps but lately I've found myself trapped in the house for most of the day while Kolton snoozes.

We had a very calm weekend. Friday night our court hosted the monthly neighborhood get together which our subdivision does every summer.  We ended up meeting a fun couple who lives down the street.  They have two young girls, she is a SAHM, and he travels for work.  I can't believe we are just meeting them now after we've already decided to move!  The first thing they said to us was "we are so excited to see another young couple here."  I mean seriously, its like we live in a 55+ community.  The rest of the weekend we spent just lounging around.  Which is always frustrating on a Monday morning when you look at all the things you should have done.

In other Kolton news; his new favorite activity is to throw things overboard.  This is especially annoying at meal times.  What ever I put on his tray gets flung over the side.  When I tell him "no!" he just laughs at me and does it again.  So frustrating!  Does anyone else have this problem????  Now he's also sending his crib buddies flying.  I sneak in his room to put them back in because I love that he can entertain himself for a bit when he wakes up.  Oh! And we were able to get him walking again!  During the running of the Preakness actually.  Maybe he was feeling I'll Have Another's enthusiasm because he still won't do it on a consistent basis.  I'm crossing my fingers that he'll be steady on his feet for our trip to the Outerbanks in a month=)

Solo

Little man is feeling a ton better!  The pediatrician was able to see sores in his mouth so it definitely was the hand, foot, mouth virus.  Its too bad that he had to come down with it when Mike's sister and her family were in town.  However, it eased the burden on me just knowing help was there if I needed it.  And today I got to go to the mall by myself for a couple hours while they baby sat.  I felt like I was 16 again!  Do you remember the feeling of that first taste of freedom?  I was excited just being in the car solo.

And in case you're wondering.  Kolton still has not returned to walking unassisted.  I guess he's just not ready to be on his own yet.

Hand, Foot, Mouth

Happy Mother's Day!!!!  This year I was treated to a trip to KidMed and a baby with a 104.7 fever.  Yeah Me!!!  Mike's sister and her family are visiting from Chicago.  Saturday we decided to take a day trip to Charlottesville (about 1 hr from Richmond) to take in some history.  Thomas Jefferson's home, Monticello, has a very impressive visitors center and tour.  We left as Kolton was getting ready to take his nap.  Although he usually takes 2-3 hour naps I thought an hour would do and then he could sleep again on the way back.  So when he acted kind of tired I figured he was missing those extra hours.  The unfortunate thing was he was in the stroller so it wasn't until a few hours later that I realized he was burning up.  We got him some Tylenol when we stopped for lunch and by the time we got home he seemed to be in better spirits.  By evening it was clear we needed to take him in.  Kolton has never been this sick before!  The nurse practitioner diagnosed it as hand, foot, & mouth but he has not developed any sores yet.  His sleeping patterns have also been very erratic.  He slept most the day Saturday, hardly slept at all yesterday and is now already down for a nap after only being up a little less than an hour.  Time to call the pediatrician!  Although it cuts like a knife to see him this way I will admit it feels kind of good to be needed.  And oddly enough, that in itself was a wonderful Mother's Day gift.

Happy Birthday Sophie! 5 Years Old!

My dear little SophaLoaf is 5 years old today.  She might as well be my 5th limb because now days she hardly ever leaves my side.  She is my constant companion.  Kolton sleeps for 11 hours at night and about 3 hours during the day.  But Sophie and I are together during all of those hours and then some.  She warms my heart and loves us unconditionally...even the little one who pulls her tail!  Happy Birthday Baby Girl!

Noodles

Kolton and I have a standing lunch date at Noodles & Company.  We go at least once a week.  I've increasingly started to realize I am a little OCD when it comes to eating out.  I get the same thing every time and at Noodles we sit in the same spot every time. Of course if someone beats me to my favorite spot I don't freak out or anything.  But I'm usually severely disappointed when ever I stray from my regular...pasta fresca with parmesan cheese, parmesan crusted chicken, ceasar salad, and a Dr. Pepper.  Over the weekend Mike came home with the wrong Dairy Queen treat and I bit his head off!  He got me a Mr. Misty Freeze instead of a Mr. Misty Float.  Hey, I like what I like!  I could give you a full run down of my favorites but I'll spare you the details.

Unfortunately a lot of what I like is super unhealthy.  Its extremely difficult to have self control when I can just go and get what ever I'm craving when ever I want.  We are going to the Outerbanks for a few days in about a month and it looks like I'll be wearing a cover up the entire time.  I'm wondering how  Italian women remain so skinny while eating so many noodles?

Little Tease

Friday we experienced one of the greatest spectacles; our child walking unassisted for the first time!!!  (I hate technology and just spent the past hour trying to upload the video from my iphone with no success.) It was everything I thought it would be.  And the icing was Mike's parents were here to witness it.  By the end of the night Kolton was walking across the room and into the kitchen before collapsing with glee in my lap.  We were thrilled and flooded with relief that finally the day had arrived.  We all had a hard time sleeping because we couldn't wait for him to wake up and zoom around the house some more.  My what a little tease my little man is...he refused to do it again the rest of the weekend!  Womp, Womp.  Now I don't know what to think!  I'm calling the pediatrician tomorrow to see if she has any suggestions.  And of course now my worrying has gone into overdrive.

Grass, Grass, Baby

Since the suggestion that Kolton might be a little off either verbally or sensory wise I've been watching him like a hawk.  I'll look for anything to suggest that he's 100% NORMAL.  Most of the time I just get caught up in what a sweet little guy he is and forget all about it.  Today I took him into the yard to see how he would react to grass now that he's a little older.  It's pretty plush and he had a blast crawling around!  So no sensory issues there.

Grandma and Grandpa Junkans come into town tomorrow! We haven't seen them since Christmas.  We are pretty excited to have the company =)

On a side note- Holy Hotness!  Moving to a community with a pool is starting to look better and better!
